The Giving Project is the individual release of many, many hundreds on the way to thousands of unique works of art to strangers, the only record of which is a GPS coordinate in combination with date and time and any other information receivers are willing to disclose at that one moment in time. These small, hand-cast forms, which I call “micro-canvases” because I “paint” with these plastics, resemble at first glance a customized domino; however, each is unique as the creation and casting process is thermo-driven and inherently unstable. The core of the work is fleeting, so I have sought for this socially engaged project to have as minimal a documentation or archive as possible so as to preserve this special and ephemeral moment, to keep it as a connection between two people that exists outside of performance. The pages of this site attempt to present what escapes quantification and hopefully entice others into their own attempts to give without concern.
